Superb quality care is our utmost concern. Visit our center and experience the Immediate Care difference.
Austin Immediate Care has state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, saving you time and money.
We accept most major insurance plans, and we are continuously working to expand our network. Urgent care co-pays and fees are substantially lower than those charged by hospital emergency rooms. We require a deposit for self-pay patients and those with high deductible plans.Learn More
Our Board Certified and emergency medicine trained providers treat non-life threatening injuries and illnesses. We have CLIA-certified labs and digital x-rays at our site so we can diagnose and treat higher acuity cases than most urgent care centers in Austin.Learn More
We are conveniently located at the corner of West Slaughter and Mopac, behind Wendy’s in the Shops at Slaughter Creek. We are open 365 days a year with plenty of convenient parking. We also provide complimentary Wi-Fi and beverages and flat-screen TVs in each patient room.
Like most private physician practices, Austin Immediate Care requires payment at the time of service. Fees vary depending on the level of service provided. We accept most major insurance plans. In most cases, Austin Immediate Care fees and co-pays are substantially lower—usually one-third of the cost—than those charged by emergency rooms.
At the time of service, patients are required to pay the urgent care co-pay as determined by their insurance carrier (usually $25 - $75). This co-pay is typically substantially less than that charged by hospital emergency departments.
A pre-payment deposit of $150 is required prior to service for patients who maintain membership in High Deductible Plans. If deductible requirements have been satisfied, with verification from the insurance company, only the co-pay (determined by your insurance carrier) is required.
As a service to our senior population, we participate with Medicare Part B. We also participate with various Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called "Part C" or "MA Plans," that are offered by private companies. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan or a secondary plan and your insurance card says “Medicare,” Federal law provides for you to be seen at any emergency room or qualified urgent care center.
A pre-payment of $150 is required from every patient who maintains membership in a non-participating insurance plan. We will “courtesy bill” all plans, meaning we will submit the claim on the patient’s behalf, and the insurance company may reimburse the patient depending on his or her contracted plan.
A pre-payment deposit of $240 is required from every patient who presents to Austin Immediate Care without valid health insurance coverage, or is on Medicaid, or who is otherwise a non-insured private pay patient.

Clinical superiority and patient satisfaction are of utmost concern to Dr. Joseph L. Chow, President, TeamHealth Urgent Care. Dr. Chow leads by example—he consistently receives superior patient satisfaction scores with patients oftentimes citing his compassion and care as a primary reason for their positive experiences at the centers in which he works.
Dr. Chow joined our organization in 2007. He received the TeamHealth Urgent Care Medical Director of the Year Award in 2012. Dr. Chow now oversees the medical care delivered at all TeamHealth affiliated urgent care facilities across the country.
Dr. Chow is board certified in Family Practice. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University at Buffalo. He earned his Medical Doctorate from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1997. Dr. Chow completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University at Rochester. He also earned a Master's of Business Administration from the University at Buffalo in 2014, graduating with Beta Gamma Sigma honors.
In addition to his position with TeamHealth, Dr. Chow has served as Medical Director and Medical Review Officer for DuPont Industries in Buffalo, NY. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo’s Department of Family Medicine, and precepts medical students at a local volunteer medical clinic.
Prior to joining TeamHealth, Dr. Chow was a Partner and Treasurer of Springville Pediatrics and Adult Care, LLP. He served as the attending physician for the Gow School, and sports physician at the Springville Griffith Institute.

Earlier this year I wrote a column about the sorry state of customer service in medical care. But recently I had the pleasure (how often can you use that word in the context of health care?) of being treated, literally, to a striking exception.
Last week I was getting ready for a business trip to Asia and got a sore throat the day before leaving. Preferring not to go without antibiotics if I needed them -- or worse, wind up needing medical care in China or Vietnam -- I stopped, without an appointment, into a nearby Immediate Care facility (division of TeamHealth holdings, NYSE: TMH). The company is one of a growing number of chains providing an alternative to emergency room visits and a range of other common outpatient services, from sniffles to stitches, fever to fractures, and more. But unlike any typical ER, it provides these services with as much of a focus on the patient/customer experience as on quality medical care.
Immediate Care promises minimal wait times, immaculate facilities and pleasant, compassionate people, and during my visit they delivered flawlessly. The building looked more like a day spa than a doctor's office. I was checked in quickly and efficiently and seen within 20 minutes, and every person I dealt with -- from the front desk to the clinicians -- was smiling and unfailingly courteous, attentive and caring.
I was so impressed by the experience that I contacted the corporate office to learn more. In keeping with the company's name and ethic, I got an immediate response. Salvatore Durante, the company's Urgent Care Operations manager, gave me a five-point summary of what makes the business tick. Interestingly -- but not surprisingly -- it's all about humans as beings, not bodies:
Amherst, NY Austin Immediate Care has successfully earned reaccreditation from The Joint Commission, the nation’s preeminent independent body for auditing and measuring quality in healthcare. As part of The Joint Commission’s strict compliance standards, accredited urgent care practices must undergo an onsite survey by a Joint Commission survey team every three years. Austin Immediate Care successfully completed a rigorous 60-day compliance audit to achieve continuous accreditation.
“Today, higher quality standards, convenience, affordability and transparency are demanded by patients who are bearing more and more out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Accreditation by The Joint Commission signifies meeting the most rigorous quality standards in the most cost-effective manner, and patients and insurance companies take note,” said Joseph L. Chow M.D., President, Austin Immediate Care. “As the leading urgent care provider in Austin, our entire organization is committed to ensuring patients receive the highest quality care.”
Austin Immediate Care received initial accreditation from The Joint Commission in February of 2012, signifying the practice’s commitment to quality and patient satisfaction.
The Joint Commission survey procedure focuses on evaluating actual patient care processes by tracing patients through the care, treatment and services they receive. In addition to these patient “tracers,” surveyors conduct systems’ tracers to analyze key operational systems that directly impact the quality and safety of patient care. The objective of the survey is to evaluate the organization, and to provide education and guidance that will help staff members continue to improve the organization’s performance.
Established in 2009, Austin Immediate Care’s board certified physicians treat over 12,000 patients each year, most in about an hour. All three state-of-the-art medical centers are open 365 days per year with extended hours in order to provide comprehensive and convenient care for patients.
Immediate Care provides you with an opportunity to put your skills to use, to become a leader in a growing organization and to be appropriately compensated—all this and you can have a life, too. We place a premium on innovation, excellence and performance.

Do you have questions? Good, because we have answers! An urgent care center is used for episodic care for patients with medical conditions that require treatment. When experiencing a non-life threatening situation (but could lead to potentially harmful outcome if not treated in a timely fashion), a patient can receive treatment at Immediate Care rather than seeking treatment at an emergency room. Patients should inform their Primary Care physician of such visit and consult him or her for follow up care. If the patient is in a life-threatening situation, please call 911 right away for care.
Immediate Care is a full-service urgent care center, meaning that we have physicians, diagnostic tools and labs on-site so we can diagnose and treat most patients in one visit. This saves time and money for patients and insurance companies.
No, not all urgent care centers are alike! The quality of providers and the level of services vary widely. To assure the highest quality care, look for a center that is accredited by The Joint Commission, which is recognized nationwide as the preeminent organization for healthcare accreditation. Immediate Care is one of the very few urgent care centers in the country that has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. This signifies our commitment to continuously achieving the highest national standards for safety and quality of care.
No, you never need an appointment to visit Immediate Care. Come to Immediate Care when you need prompt medical care.
Most patients are treated and released in about an hour. However, visit times vary depending on the number of patients at the center and the severity of their injuries or illness. Patients who require tests, such as x-rays or labs, may require some additional time.
Immediate Care centers are staffed by board-certified physicians who are skilled in the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. All of our providers—physicians, physician assistants, nurses and radiological technicians—are dedicated to providing excellent medical care in a compassionate, respectful manner.
Our fees vary depending on the level of services provided. Generally our fees are approximately one-third of those charged by emergency departments for similar procedures. Patients are required to provide payment or proof of insurance prior to treatment.
Immediate Care accepts most major insurance plans. Co-pays are determined by your insurance plan, but are usually much less than those for an emergency room visit or those for free-standing emergency departments.
